A Shop Window Contest will be held with judging taking place on Wednesday 6th December and a Family Window Spotting Competition will also take place. All windows in the town will automatically be judged without the need of an entry form. The Council would very much appreciate it, if windows could be decorated and lit before Switch on Day.

The Family Window Spotting Competition will also run from Switch on Day, until Friday 1st December.

Entry forms will be available from The Library, Firn’s Home Hardware, The Toy Shop and Leslie Cleeland but completed forms must be returned to the library only.

Eat, drink, shop and explore at the third annual Taste Cumbria Christmas Festival in Cockermouth on Saturday 9th and Sunday 10th December.

There will be a giant producers’ market and a hot food court on Main Street and a bar packed with ales and fizz from Jennings Brewery. There will also be free culinary demonstrations in the Cockermouth Kitchen Company shop on Market Place, plus loads of family activities and festive entertainment at that end of town.

Festival organiser Anna Lyttle of CN Events, says: “There’s no need to travel outside the county in search of a Christmas market – you have one, right here on your doorstep.

“Cockermouth makes the perfect backdrop for a big festival and it’s great how many businesses and traders get involved. We reckon you should make a weekend of it – come and do all your Christmas shopping,

then stay in town for dinner and a party!”

Taste Cumbria in Cockermouth has a wealth of local partners. This year, the Festival is organised in association with Allerdale Borough Council and Cumbria Life, its main sponsors
