Massage for living

I am promoting my new massage clinic based at Liz Hunter Physiotherapy on Lorton Street in Cockermouth. Having completed a college course, Pilates training and a further massage qualification (VCTC Level 3 Remedial and Sports Massage) I have started working alongside the physiotherapists, gaining a deeper knowledge of injuries, complaints and treatments.

general

I am now developing a massage service at the clinic, offering remedial and sports massage, as well as maintenance massage to the patients who have finished their physiotherapy.

The benefits and effects of massage There are many physical and psychological benefits of massage:

Massage reduces tension and tenderness in muscle, as well as stretching muscle and other connective tissues. This will ease soreness, improve joint movement and aid relaxation. It also improves circulation, aiding blood flow and lymphatic drainage. Hands-on treatment provides a sense of nurturing, which creates an overall feeling of wellbeing. All of the above allows your body to move more freely, with greater comfort, making it easier for you to get on with your life!

Treatments are tailored to the client, depending on their individual needs. Some clients require a deep, releasing massage, while others would benefit from a gentle relaxing massage, or a combination of massage and exercises/stretches to practise at home to maintain and prolong the positive effects of massage.

Everyone can benefit from massage and it will help people in different ways depending on hobbies/work life:

• Sport and exercise: to maintain healthy tissues, help monitor how your body is coping with training, aid recovery by helping drain toxins and prepare for an event.

• Relaxation: reduces tension, improves sense of wellbeing, eases discomfort from work postures or stresses.

• Revitalise: increasing blood flow helps with vitality and skin condition

A combination of teaching Pilates, watching the way people move and learning more about the body through feeling how muscles react to certain pressures, enables me to help people feel the best they can. Working with the physiotherapists, we work holistically to try to achieve the best possible results for each client.
