KEEPING YOU IN TOUCH - YOUR FREE MONTHLY NEWSPAPER DELIVERED DOOR-TO-DOOR FOR 30 YEARS Children Law Specialists

We are delighted to confirm that Emma Atkinson one of our senior family solicitors has been approved as a member of the Law Society Children Law Accreditation Scheme. This acknowledges her skill and expertise in legal matters relating to children and it also means that Emma can now represent children via their Children’s Guardians in child law proceedings at Court.

This is a further indication of our commitment to providing a high level of service to all family clients. We have recently expanded our family team with the addition of Natalie Colquitt who recently qualified as a Solicitor and has become a permanent member of the team. At Milburns we focus on making ourselves available to clients. We aim to be approachable and easily contactable. We have a Facebook page which is updated regularly, keeping our clients up to date with the latest news and developments at Milburns and to reach new audiences that are active online. Clients can contact us in person, by phone, email or indeed Facebook Messenger to make an appointment!

This time of year is particularly busy for family cases, with parents applying to the Courts for a divorce after difficult summer ‘make or break holidays’. The family courts are designed to be open and approachable, as demonstrated in a recent case which made the headlines. During the case, Mr Justice Peter Jackson, wrote a letter to the child in the case:

“This case is about you and your future, so I write this letter as a way of giving my decision to you and your parents,' he wrote. 'When a case like this comes before the court, the judge has to apply the law as found in the Children Act 1989, and particularly in section 1. You may have looked at this already, but if you Google it, you will see that when making my decision, your welfare is my paramount consideration - more important than anything else.' He continued: 'When I was appointed a judge, I took the oath that every judge takes to apply the law in a way that is fair to everybody.”

This policy of being open, approachable and fair is a policy that we encourage and embrace at Milburns.
