Richard.Johnson1@coop.co.uk GETTING THINGS SORTED…

As part of the Co-op Estate Planning team I assist people all over Cumbria who wish to ensure that their affairs are in order and that they will one day not be leaving their families any of the following:

• The fees of Legal Deputies because they quietly forgot to appoint people they trust to act on their behalf should they begin to suffer mental incapacity.

• The Legal fees relating to the administration of their estate because they never quite got round to appointing anyone to have the legal right to do this task… the scenario when someone dies intestate.

• The costs of their funeral because, well, it just didn’t occur to them these would land on their family.

• Practically nothing… because they didn’t believe they might just spend the last few years of their life in a hugely expensive ‘Care’ situation and had done nothing about safeguarding any of their estate well before this circumstance arose.

These situations can be largely avoided with some foresight and a willingness to act. It is true that to ensure none of the above happens will require some expenditure but this is minor by comparison to the potential costs to your family of doing nothing. What value does one put on ‘Peace of Mind’? To go into our dotage knowing that we have covered all likely bases and that our affairs will be in the hands of those we trust is comforting. In addition, that there will not be a ‘nothing left in the estate’ scenario because we did do some planning ahead is something our families will be very grateful of.

My role as a Co-op Estate Planner is to assist you through this process and provide you with all relevant necessary documentation.

HIGHAM HALL’S REIKI 1 WEEKEND ~HIGHAM HALL COLLEGE~

This month we introduce a brand-new course at Higham, aimed at people serious about developing their own skills with a Japanese form of 'energy healing'. Rei-ki combines the notion of two Japanese words:

‘rei’

(translatable as soul, spirit) and ‘ki’ (vital energy). These approximate translations hint at the nature of Reiki and it is primarily administered through the laying-on of hands and seeks to improve wellbeing.

Once discovered, for many, Reiki has become a life-transforming element as it offers approaches to potentially manage stress, anxiety and certain aspects of health. Modern life seems to fit well with the philosophies and teachings that Reiki embodies. Some, it must be said, struggle with such notions but Reiki can be regarded as a valid, teachable practice and it does not interfere with any personal spiritual or religious beliefs.

Our very first REIKI 1 WEEKEND aims to offer any adult the opportunity to get

started seriously and no special skills are required.

In a

deliberately small group, you can learn to channel this energy in yourself and potentially, in others.

This peaceful weekend up at Higham is being run by our talented Tutor Mandy Beal from Warwickshire - being a residential college, Higham is able to bring expertise from

other parts of the country up to this area. A non-residential place costs £162.00 and includes all tuition (attunement is the Reiki term for it) and food - the food being a significant part of the Higham experience - ask anyone who's been!

Follow-up weekends, for people with some Reiki experience are scheduled for the New Year - details also on the website.

REIKI 1 WEEKEND

Starts with dinner on Friday 20th October and ends with lunch on Sunday 22nd October.
