ALL THE LATEST NEWS, VIEWS AND STORIES FROM AROUND YOUR LOCAL AREA:AUGUST/SEPTEMBER

IS IT TIME TO EXPLORE OUR LOCAL AREA ON A ROAD BIKE?

There's never been a better time to buy a new road bike. While the likes of Froome might belt around France on bikes costing more than most cars, you don't need to spend anywhere near that much, even less, with things such as Cycle to Work now in full swing for many companies in the area. Bikes have become ever better value for money in recent years, with much of that Tour de France advanced technology trickling down to bikes we can all afford. With end of season sales already on, it is an even better time to find amazing bargain on that dream road bike.

When you're buying a road bike, the range of bike types, materials and component options can be bewildering, so it is always worthwhile coming to chat

to your local experts in your local bike shop. With so many different styles of frames available, from endurance and climbing, to aerodynamics and out-and- out race machines, it is always good to have someone local who can advise you on fit and comfort to suit your riding style and what you intend to do.

With the Cycle to Work season also well underway, offering the advantage of riding to work so people can get fit and healthier without sacrificing that time for training, an ideal way to get in some training for the fantastic local sportives we have in the area! There’s the famous Fred Whitton Challenge and Lakeland Monster Miles, offering a range of event styles and difficulties for riders to take part in. Events like this are brilliant as

none-competitive sportives, which give a goal, usually for charity or as a personal challenge.

So maybe it’s time to take to the roads with a road bike and visit our many lakes, passes, and villages on some of the best roads in Europe, exploring all the fantastic views missed when in a car and feeling better connected with our environment whilst earning those valued café and pub stops. Then back home, to watch the Vuelta a España on in a couple of weeks and the Tour of Britain in September. Sounds like plenty of summer fun, doesn’t it?
