THROUGH WATER, FLOODS & FIRE:
“Keep yourselves in the love of God, looking for the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ unto eternal life. And of some have compassion, making a difference: And others save with fear, pulling them out of the fire; hating even the garment spotted by the flesh.”
WME Partners & Supporters,
As you likely remember, in October 2016 Hurricane Matthew unleashed its fury on the island nation of Haiti, dumping rain that flooded villages and spawning winds that leveled homes and trees. It was the worst disaster in Haiti since the massive earthquake of 2010. Hundreds were killed and thousands displaced. The storm left behind destruction, sickness, polluted water and hunger.
Today, when I think of rural communities in Haiti that were devastated by this hurricane, I find myself repeating these well- known words: “SOME THROUGH THE WATERS, SOME THROUGH THE FLOOD, SOME THROUGH THE FIRE, BUT ALL THROUGH THE BLOOD; SOME THROUGH GREAT SORROW, BUT GOD GIVES A SONG, IN THE NIGHT SEASON AND ALL THE DAY LONG.” Those lines from the hymn “God Leads Us Along” go to the very heart of ways we can help the suffering people of this very poor nation.
After events like this it is small communities miles away from Haiti’s major cities that suffer the most and longest. Sadly, only a small amount of humanitarian aid reaches these rural populations, and yet they contain the

poorest of the poor in the neediest country of the Western Hemisphere. Nearly 75% of Haitians in rural areas live in “abject poverty” —They survive on less than $1.90 US per day. (That’s less than $14 per week.)
But in the midst of great sorrow, God sends His grace and a song of hope. WME’s ministry partner in Haiti is committed to reaching the rural communities of Fond Doux and Marose with Christian compassion and the message of hope in Jesus Christ.
Children still suffering from damage done by the Hurricane. They live in Fond Doux where we are raising funds to complete a well.
In Fond Doux, they have broken ground on a water project. The well and pumps (one manual, one electric) will provide clean, safe drinking water. The well is on secure property, and its water will be available to the entire community. That includes a nearby church, orphanage, and school of over 200 local children. MORE THAN JUST SAVING LIVES, THIS PROJECTWILL OPEN THE COMMUNITY FURTHER TO THE GOSPELMESSAGE BROUGHT BY LOCALMISSIONARIES.
