PRODUCT NEWS Karma, Karma, Karma Mosaic Tile

Karma is the unsung hero of the Trend glass mosaic collection. This drawn glass, hand-cut transparent mosaic, with its characteristic natural veining and deep internal fold lines, is the basis for Trend’s highly-regarded designer patterns like Liberty, Metropolis and Subway, yet is also available as a tile range in its own right.

Inspired by the stained glass windows of Gothic cathedrals, Karma mosaic recreates their elegant colours and illuminating effect with remarkable integrity.

A slight unevenness of colour is a peculiarity of this product, giving rise to a pleasingly irregular, flame effect.

A glimpse at the production process helps explain why Karma is such an exceptional mosaic. In contrast to back-painted glass tiles where a layer of pigment is fused to the reverse, Karma tiles are ‘through body’ coloured, in which pigments are mixed with molten glass, enabling pigmentation to permeate throughout the body of the tile, resisting colour fade and abrasion.

On the standard range, a metallic epoxy coating is bonded to the back of the tile, acting as a reflective element that does not peel over time and is compatible with regular tile adhesives. For the Karma Mirage variant, a 24 carat gold film is applied to the reverse of clear glass tiles, projecting through the richness and elegance of pure yellow or white gold.

Karma tiles are mostly

supplied pre-mounted on the innovative Trend Plus installation system, which cuts laying times and labour costs.

Adding further to its decorative surface credentials, Karma is also amongst Trend’s most eco- friendly mosaic, being made from up to 75% recycled glass.

A Revolution In Lifesaving Industry specialist, Ferno, has developed a ground-breaking new Pool Extraction Board in collaboration with RLSS UK. It specifically addresses the needs of lifeguards and leisure centres. The new design allows significantly faster rescue times, offers improved safety and reduces demands on staff. The innovation only requires two trained users to carry out a pool rescue as opposed to the traditional four. This means less lifeguards are drawn into a rescue, enabling them to continue to monitor other pool users and perform other key roles in a rescue situation. A rescue using the new Pool Extraction Board can be accomplished in as little as 90 seconds. The design of the RLSS UK / Ferno Pool Extraction Board is simple yet extremely versatile as it can be used with or without a freeboard and in any depth of water. The board

is fitted with the innovative Ferno Combi Head Immobiliser (CHI) (head blocks), already proven for use in ambulances and hospitals, to ensure head and neck stabilisation and therefore reducing the risk of injury during rescue. The new board can also accommodate heavier or pregnant casualties, eliminating the need for an assisted lift.

The procedure for executing a rescue with the RLSS UK / Ferno board is quick and easy. The casualty can be strapped in and stabilised whilst still in the water and then lifted out of the pool by a single member of staff in the water and a single member of staff at the poolside. Throughout the rescue, correct buoyancy is maintained by the board’s rotational hollow moulding. The board is set to be sold by Lifesavers Direct at www.
