Team Lovibond® Steps It Up Again For Charity

Five Lovibond® colleagues never learn.

They took the challenge again this year by taking part in the PLOD and crossing the line at 2.45pm on 26 July following a 40 mile hike across the South Downs. Most importantly, they managed to raise a staggering £1,000 for the charity, Action Medical Research, dedicated to supporting research to help hundreds of thousands of sick and disabled children in the UK.

The ‘Plodders’ (left to right) Chris Burtenshaw, Nick Pitman, Len Tryhorn, Lynette Maguire and Amy Penn from The Tintometer® Group

Leaving at midnight, they hiked, climbed, clambered and scrambled across the Downs, covering 40 miles to the finish point where they crossed the line in a very respectable 9th place out of 30 teams. “Winning was not the goal – raising money for a good cause from colleagues, friends and families in Amesbury and Wrexham was the target,” said one of the ‘Plodders’. Oliver Hiscoe, Community Fundraiser – Central England, South West & Wales, commented: “Starting at midnight, the PLOD South Downs Way was a gruelling 40 mile endurance walk through particularly hilly terrain testing participants to their limit. By no means a walk in the park, this year

the temperature hit a high of 26°C for the final stretch of the walk. This meant that walkers having gone for 35 miles had to climb the Seven Sisters and Beachy Head at scorching temperatures and persevere on worn legs and with various blisters. We are indebted to teams such as Lovibond®

for

taking part in this difficult challenge. By taking part teams are fundraising for vital, lifesaving research for disabled and disadvantaged children in the UK.”

Dröm Sponsored Decathlete Wins Silver In Glasgow

Dröm UK are the very proud sponsors of Commonwealth Games Silver medal winning decathlete Ashley Bryant. Ashley, who was competing in his first Commonwealth Games, secured Silver after achieving personal bests in the Pole Vault and the Long Jump.

Commenting on his medal success, he said: “I’m still on an absolute high after winning the Silver medal. It’s a dream come true to pick up my first major championship medal. “It’s been a long term aim to make the podium, to have actually achieved it is an unbelievable feeling, it still really hasn’t sunk in. It’s been a hard 12 months which only makes the pride and sense of achievement greater for me in a competition

which felt like a home games here in Glasgow.”

The winter was tough for Ashley due to injury problems sidelining him for many months. “However the improvements I made at the start of the summer, together with hard work, determination and all the help and support I received from Dröm UK helped me to produce a personal best in Gotzis, which I then followed up with another good score to clinch the Silver,” he said. Ashley next competes at the European Championships in Zurich where his aim is to achieve a new personal best overall score. Dröm UK will be behind him all the way.
