–Photography and story by Danette Morse. Traveling by Greyhound.

The sun was low in the morning sky. It’s rays shining through the mist and smoke from nearby campfires. A fleece jacket and soft, warm bed cradle a docile, soul- ful canine as breakfast is prepared. There is no sense of hurry or worry. The day will unfold as it will and what it presents will be addressed with a matter-of- fact acceptance. The daily elements are common but vary in what

they bring to the trip; weather, traffic, construction, detours, rules, sites, timetables, accommodations and meals. No long range plan is set in stone but these details are thought of almost continually. For to be caught unaware of any of them makes for a rough time on the road. True enough for any traveler but vitally important when your home is a tent, your transportation is a bicycle, and you’ve got your sixteen-year-old Greyhound in tow. We met up with Frankie and his humans, Adrian

and Gigi last summer in Yellowstone National Park. At that point, the trio had already traveled a five thou- sand mile journey through the western United States and Canada. I wanted to capture both the joy of traveling sim-

plistically with a dog, and the challenges cycling with a senior dog presents. To follow the continuing adventures of Frankie and his family, visit OfPedalsAndPaws.com U
