January saw another awesome Monster Ball event for the Mentoring Youth

Through Education (MYTE) youth group based at the Long Beach Center. Held each year for LGBT teens and their friends ages 14 through 18, the event welcomed over 150 people, featured arts, crafts, photo booths, dancing, food and a fabulous DJ “Don’t feed the DJ.” A huge “thank you” to the sensational perfomers who volun- teered their time and talent to entertain: drag queens Miss Conception, Big Dee and Isha Cypress, along with Drag Kings Landon Cider, Havok Von Doom, Miles Long and Trigger entertained the excited crowd. It was a wonderful experience to see the bright and cheery faces of today’s generation being able to enjoy a safe and fun evening amongst their peers. On the social roster for February, West Hollywood remains a bustling hub of amazing performances. Every Tuesday night at RAGE nightclub in the heart of the WeHo strip, catch a wonderful line-up of superstar entertainment that is the Dreamgirls Revue. These legendary ladies tear up the stage weekly, highlighting some of the best female and celebrity impersonation around. After the show stick around for a meet-and-greet with some of your favorite performers of whom have appeared on Rupaul’s Drag Race. For more information check out the facebook page atfacebook.com/dreamgirls.revue. Also in West Hollywood, every Wednesday evening you can participate in the

insane Legendary Bingo at Hamburger Mary’s. This long-running and typically sold-out event (plan ahead and make reservations) benefits a large variety of wor- thy causes. Jeffrey Bowman produces two shows a night, every Wednesday and Sunday evening. Drag queen hosts include a large variety of awesome celebrity “ball callers” like RuPaul diva Willam, Roxy Wood, Porsha Hayy and the sensational LOGO TV star, Calpernia Addams. Each show benefits local charities, with 100 per- cent of donations going directly to each cause. For more information on this and other Legendary Bingo events, go tobingoboyinc.com. Hitting the streets in Orange County this month at Velvet Lounge in Santa Ana,

are some awesome new events: DJ Hazmat and the popular Kub Kamp event will begin a monthly O.C. party on Friday, February 14 and each month’s second Friday thereafter, the bears will continue to be in full force. JEWELS’ GORGEOUS GEMS

HI KIDS! WELL, THE SEASON OF LOVERS IS UPON US. OF COURSE, ONLY IF ONE IS THAT LUCKY... The beautiful Southern California summer, oops… winter weather is ushering in

a month of romantic dinners and fabulous activities. Having just returned from the frozen tundra that is Minnesota, during which the

high temperature was minus ten degrees, I am more thankful than ever to live in our amazing climate. The fridgid horror of that frightful cold was a jarring reminder, enlightened only by the comfort of loving family and the celebration of my amaz- ing grandmother’s 90th birthday. Even after 90 years in that cold, my grandmother still rises at 7 a.m. to play tennis with her girlfriends and run a daunting social sched- ule. The strength embodied by her and many others of our elders is remarkable, especially when I find a noon wake-up time somewhat unbearable on occasion.
