Lighting – Products That Enhance The Pool

THE LATEST LED AND FIBRE OPTIC SYSTEMS ARE HELPING TO SET THE MOOD AND STYLE FOR NEW SWIMMING POOLS AND HAVE MEANT MANY REFURBISHED POOLS ARE SEEN LITERALLY IN A NEW LIGHT. THE LATEST TECHNOLOGY AND NEW ENERGY EFFICIENT PRODUCTS MEAN THAT THERE’S STILL NO SLOWING UP FOR WHAT HAS ALWAYS BEEN AN INNOVATIVE SECTOR THAT PROVIDES ILLUMINATING IDEAS FOR SWIMMING POOLS AND THEIR SURROUNDS

By Jon Wadeson

ighting within the wet leisure industry has changed both dramatically and rapidly in recent years. As advances in technology have come on stream, newer designs and more energy efficient products have becoming increasingly the norm. There has also been a change in how lighting is used to enhance and maximise the aesthetics of a pool, sauna and spa and new technologies, effects, creative vision and ideas are now producing truly stunning visual results. An example of how quickly things have progressed was given by Steve Mullery, Managing Director at Atmospheric Zone when he spoke about exhibiting to the trade ten years ago. “We remember our first booth at SPATEX exhibiting the first generation of colour lamps. The comments were astonishing – from ‘tacky’ to ‘colour lamps in a pool, are you mad?’ – how things have changed.” The company now only sells 3% white lights and most other lighting has the ability to change colour!

But colour is just one of the advances. Today, there is no argument across the lighting industry as a whole that LEDs are now the light source of choice and they have crossed over into both traditional lighting as well as fibre optics. And the

fastest growing trends in lighting are, according to Steve, on the control side in terms of dimming and third party scene control – using DMX (Digital Multiplex) and a DALI (Digital Addressable Lighting Interface).

So it’s taken a while for the industry to really embrace lighting, the new technologies available and the benefits that well thought out systems provide, but going forward, the future it seems is now very bright indeed!

Atmospheric Zone have now secured exclusive UK distributorship for leading brand Astel
