and not misled, then traditional and new- wave or alternative options can all be effective,” says Mark. “If you don’t want chlorine for some reason, check that any alternative gives full protection to you and your family. Always follow the instructions on the label for the best and safest results.”

FI-CLOR TARGETS THE TASK OF OPENING UP A NEW SEASON POOL Fi-Clor from Lonza remains one of the most popular names amongst specialist retailers when recommending pool opening products and they offer a range of high quality pool chemicals for the swimming pool owners.

They recommend first to shock dose the pool with a product such as their Superfast Shock & Sanitiser products which are made from calcium hypochlorite and contain no stabiliser, which when present in excess, may inhibit chlorine activity. Superfast Granules dissolve rapidly when added to water and produce an impressive

42 April 2013 SPN 78% available chlorine.

Ideal for indoor and outdoor pools, with both granular and tablet versions helping to balance the water in soft water areas.

The high dose of chlorine will kill off any algae spores and bacteria that might be lurking in liner creases or in the surface of tile grouting. This will give you as near sterile water as possible. Your pool water needs to be kept in good condition throughout the spring and summer as the chlorine will soon dissipate. You now need to add a product such as Fi-Clor Multi-Functional Algicide. Its special formulation contains a long life algaecide, water clarifier, anti stain and anti scale additives, which prevent the formation of scale and staining from dissolved minerals.

‘FROG’ PROVIDES CORRECT EARLY SEASON DOSING Golden Coast is aware that some pool owners are

keen to reduce contact with chemicals yet still need to be sure that at the start of the season, more than any other time, the correct dosing is in place. It offers a range of floating chemical dispensers, as well as the self- contained ‘FROG’ – ‘water treatment centre’. The ‘FROG’ does not use electricity and is installed as an in-line cleaner with no need for extra plumbing. It provides the added advantage of having a ready mixed mineral reservoir capable of holding Trichlor tablets for a low level chlorine back-up. The company’s Swimmer range of more traditional products offers a straightforward approach to getting the pool water prepared. There’s the Swimmer Filter Cleaner which is a pre-season filter cleaner to cleanse the filter media, a Swimmer Algae Destroyer which eliminates any winter build-up of algae in the pool water and finally Swimmer Tidemark Cleaner – inhibiting the potential for metals and minerals naturally found in the water to stain pool interior surfaces and damage pool equipment. Golden Coast’s brand of Swimmer Chemical line up includes a starter pack for above-ground pools. The pack includes a 500g pack of chlorine granules; 500g pH increasers and 750g pH de-creasers, 500g algaecide and 50 insta-test strips to check water quality.
