PRESIDENT’S CORNER

By JENIFER PANERAL, CPM, 2012 HAA President

Outstanding Service I

Please join us in celebrating Ken Bohan’s hard work and dedication to the association and the industry at the Hall of Fame luncheon on Thursday, August 23.

t is with great pleasure that I am able to invite my fellow HAA members to honor industry stalwart Ken Bohan, The Liberty Group, as this year’s Hall of Fame honoree. Ken, who started his multifamily career in property management

before building a formidable staffing business, is only the fourth supplier member to be honored with HAA’s Lifetime Achievement Award. Please join us in celebrating his hard work and dedication to the asso- ciation and the industry at the Hall of Fame lunch- eon on Thursday, August 23 at the Hotel Derek (see Page 6 at right for details).

COMMUNITY SPIRIT

This association has always worked to support its members as well as the broader community. The need for apartment and other rental homes will only grow in the coming years. The need to serve our growing industry and residents will grow likewise, and HAA members will be there to carry on our tradition of service to our business and to the people who make it work, whether as leaders, managers or residents. I would like to thank everyone who contributed to

our third annual school supply drive. Your generosity will help so many children, many of them our resi- dents, go back to school with the tools they need to succeed. Speaking of getting ready for school, consider reaching out to the schools your youngest residents will attend to make sure you have information about bus schedules and holidays so that you will be pre- pared should residents come to you with questions.

The HAA Hall of Fame recognizes a supplier member who has long demonstrated his dedication to the industry.

COMING SOON The HAA staff and strategic planning task force are

busy this month planning for the future success of the association. In fact, the HAA offices will be closed on August 16 and 17 for the staff planning retreat. Thanks to everyone who responded to the web survey sent to all members in June. Your input is appreciated and invaluable as we look for ways to better serve you. After a brief lull in the dog days of summer, we

gear up for another eventful season at HAA next month. From the Take 5 Business Exchange on September 11 to the annual ladies-only “Code Red: Girls Gone Golfing” event on the 13th and the mem- bership “homecoming” event on the 25th, there’s something for everyone. The Better Government Fund also has several important events planned for September and October. More information on these and other events is available throughout this maga- zine as well as online at www.haaonline.org.

DIRECTORY DEADLINE Also, if you are still working on a prospective mem-

ber or two, here’s a carrot that might help them decide: The last day to join HAA in time to be included in the 2013 Directory & Buyer’s Guide is Monday, October 1. Don’t let them wait until the last minute to be listed in this must-have for every manager! If you are a property manager and your property has

changed its name, unit count, address or other contact information, please be sure to call HAA to share your changes and help us keep our database up to date.
