A GRAND DAY OUT AT GRAND DESIGNS LIVE!

London event having negotiated an exclusive arrangement with the organisers to exhibit hot tubs and swim spas. Hydropool UK invited SCP to support them and they reported that interest in their stand was ‘very high’.

The PIP Committee, under the chairmanship of Jamie Adams from Golden Coast had been exploring various ways of reaching out to the general public to promote the benefits of pool, spa, hot tub, sauna and steam ownership. The bold decision was taken to utilise some of the PIP budget to underwrite attendance at a consumer show and given the visitor profile of Grand Designs Live it was agreed to support this high profile event, organised by Media Ten. The plan was for SPATA to book a stand at ExCel and be amongst the hundreds of other exhibitors that understand the opportunities that are on offer at this large scale show. The main aims of exhibiting were to raise the profile of swimming pool ownership, to deal with any consumer enquiries for swimming pools and to underline the benefits of using a SPATA member. The quality of the enquiries was very good and it is anticipated that leads will have been generated directly from the show.

There were other pool companies exhibiting, including SPATA members, Engineered Pool Supplies with John and Lynn Scott in attendance. BISHTA member Hydropool UK was also at the

PATA’s decision to ‘hit the road’ and raise the profile of the industry at major consumer shows has been acclaimed as a success story.

Managing Director Jonathan Bunn said: “This year saw one of the most successful Grand Designs shows of all times and the benefit of that certainly rubbed off on us! The average order value was nearly £2,000 higher than in 2010 and the feel- good-factor enabled the Hydropool sales team to maximise the opportunity across all of Hydropool’s and SCP’s product ranges. With over £1.3 million of sales growth over the same period last year, we are proving that our decision to invest heavily into the major UK shows has paid off.” Anthony Exell from XL Pools said: “We were considering exhibiting at the show when SPATA invited us to join together with other members, so that we could benefit from sharing the costs.

Having had a successful show in London, SPATA members were then invited to support the association at the Ideal Homes Scotland Show in Glasgow. This event is one of the major shows in Scotland and Portrait Pools again agreed to attend and the other companies supporting SPATA at this event were:

Our two days were great fun and generated a reasonable number of leads and we will definitely be looking to support SPATA again next year.” For PIP to be able to support other consumer shows throughout the year, it was important to get assistance from SPATA members to provide staff support on specific days to talk with the show attendees about their pool requirements and also to provide funding to reduce the overall cost of the event.

This was achieved through the following companies supporting the event, to whom SPATA is very grateful: • Heritage Pools • Home Counties (Horsham) • London Swimming Pool Co • Penguin Pools • Portrait Pools • Tanby Swimming Pools • XL Pools

Alba / SB Pools and Ian Lewis Design. Spa Crest Europe (as BISHTA members) also attended and shared a day with Alba / SB Pools. Stephen Booth from Alba / SB Pools said: “The Show was very worthwhile both for supporting SPATA and for the company as we picked up a couple of jobs immediately from enquiries while we were there, which paid for our costs. We would obviously like to generate more work from some of the other enquiries that we took, but I believe that attendance was very important and we would definitely support the show again next year.” SPATA shared the hall with BISHTA members Grizzly Bear Hot Tubs, along with Hotspring Central and Hydropool supported Edinburgh Hot Tubs, who are their dealer in this part of Scotland. Plans are underway for SPATA to be at LIW in Birmingham in September and there are some opportunities for members to share space in the SPATA pavilion.

Then the plan is to return to the NEC in October for the Grand Designs Live in Birmingham event.
