ENTERPRISE EUROPE YORKSHIRE 3 DAY EVENT

HANDS ACRO THE WATER!

A Danish delegation arrives on Humberside

WE VISIT TO FIND OUT WHY?

Enterprise Europe Yorkshire 3 Day Event – September 2010

Enterprise Europe Network (EEY) is an organisation which spans across 43 countries and more than 600 organisations and is funded by the Europe Commission in conjunction with Yorkshire. The funding is to support the developments of relationships on a European platform from research and development, through to commercial opportunities. EEY has been working in close partnership with a number of partners to develop opportunities in the wind energy industry and to help facilitate and broker joint ventures. Current activities, in relation to the offshore wind market, are partnerships with Denmark, Norway and Germany.

This 3 day event was specifically organised for the Danish delegation with Day 2 devoted to a forum/networking day making up just 1 day of a 3 day visit with the continuing aim of cementing relationships between Denmark and the Humberside/Yorkshire region.

DAY 1 Delegates were welcomed to a dinner in Hull organised to give everyone a chance to meet and get to know each other and judging by the bleary eyes on day 2 it served to meet its aim very well!

DAY 2 Visits to various companies took up much

of the morning and included Able UK, DFDS (Danish Company), North East Lincolnshire Council and Port of Grimsby East.

Following lunch the new commercial area on the Humber Quayside, near Hull centre, was the very fitting venue for this very modern industry. The forum/networking event was held in the World Trade Centre and represented a varied and thoughtfully organised day.

Split into 2 separate parts delegates from both the surrounding area and the Danish delegation were given the opportunity to listen to a wide range of subjects from a carefully selected group of speakers as well as one to one meetings to go over business in more detail.

Tim Barraclough representing EEY opened proceedings with an overview of the event’s structure and standing room only was the order of the day. Tim was quickly followed by Tim’s counterpart in Denmark, Thomas C. Andersen with a short and amusing presentation thanking everyone for their welcome.

DAY 2 PART 1 Relevant presentations from people within the industry who can help companies get more involved within the industry with a particular focus on ‘hands across the sea’.

• Practical Support and Supply Chain Development by Sam Pick (THMA)
