Moore worked closely with Eboni Preston, US Lacrosse’s senior manager for diversity and inclusion, to help coordinate the clinic. Moore’s program also benefi tted from US Lacrosse equipment donations. “We were excited to host the camp and to send kids from our community,” Moore said. “They got to meet players from around the world, get their autographs, and also got tickets to go see the world lacrosse tournament. How fun is that?”

Preston said the goal of the clinic was to showcase the sport’s diversity and celebrate its growth. “These youth players had an

opportunity to learn from some of the best players in the world, and that is a once-in-a-lifetime experience,” Preston said. “We really wanted to make this clinic something that each player would remember.”

Having members of the celebrated Ugandan national team participate as clinicians alongside Tewaaraton Award winners Miles Thompson and Steele Stanwick was indeed memorable. “Very few clinics, if any, present the opportunity for kids to draw on such a wide range of experiences in the game,” Sankofa Alliance founder Chazz Woodson said. “This was special because Miles Thompson was there talking to the participants about what the game means to him and to the Iroquois, and players from Uganda were present as representatives of the depth and breadth of the sport.” “We wanted to create a common ground for players of different backgrounds to celebrate our sport and to just have fun,” Preston said. “That’s what this was all about.” LM

Men’s Game Seeking a better post-collegiate experience

US Lacrosse recently hosted a summit for leaders of men’s post-collegiate club teams from across the nation to formulate a strategy for continued club development. Leaders provided valuable input regarding the needs of post-collegiate clubs and how to best grow the game at that level. “As the sport's national governing body, we lean heavily on the insights of passionate PoCo ambassadors to better understand the landscape and how we can enhance their experience with the game,” said Stephen Berger, men’s game director at US Lacrosse.
