Old’s Cool Paddlers of a certain vintage are eating it up each time we post a new edition of Keeper, Rap- id’s column that pays tribute to gear of years gone by. When we featured the original Teva Alps (www.rapidmedia.com/0268) readers were keen to share their testimonies. “I still have my two pairs of Alps,” wrote Africa Lover. “I guard them and glue them as necessary, and always get the comment, ‘Where did you get those sandals?’” Graham added, “I can count on them to stay in place when I’m scrambling up and down a triple-deck canoe trailer.” Rapid contributor Clyde Nicely has been struck by nostalgia

since writing a column about Wildwater’s build-it-yourself high- float (www.rapidmedia.com/0269). “A trip member spotted the article and wanted to know if I was bringing the jacket,” Nicely wrote in an email. “Reminded me I need to replace that zip- per so I can wear it again for old-time sake.” Find this issue’s throwback on page 26.

Do You Even Lift?

Training tips for paddlers are hot items on Rapidmag.com, but some readers have been caught off guard by the idea. “Wait. What? Nobody said nuthin’ about exercises,” Park Ranger wrote in response to “5 Essential Exercises for Paddlers” (www. rapidmedia.com/0270), “I thought paddling was just for fun.” John Olson chimed in, “I thought paddling WAS exercising.”

Pissed Off

We posted a review of a new women’s onesie design that takes drysuit comfort to the next level (www.rapidmedia.com/0271) and learned one thing for sure from reader comments: women want drop seats. “Wait a sec. A drysuit MADE FOR WOMEN that doesn’t

have a drop seat? That’s more than a minor omission,” wrote Jordan Yaruss. Dinah Elliott’s sarcastic addition didn’t spare any details. “Nothing spells comfort like having a She-Pee spill in your drysuit,” she wrote. Trust us, we know. The front zip is a commitment for women, but there’s a reason some people prefer it. “I have heard that there are issues with the drop seat zipper pressing into the sides and making it uncomfortable,” wrote micah gelfand. “I know women who use the funnel attachments for the front relief zipper,” he added, hopefully answering the questions of a confused Chad Addleman, who seemed baffled by the mechanics at play. “If it’s a women’s, shouldn’t the zipper be in the back?” Oh, Chad.

Backcountry Brews We asked our Facebook fans what

their essential items for

multi-day paddling trips are, and learned there are many read- ers we’d love to go on trips with. Coffee, beer, tequila, mar- garitas, and boxes and bags of wine were all among the top answers. Find Rapid’s comparatively practical but actually es- sential list of overnighter equipment on page 42.

INTERNS WANTED

Rapid is sucking talented, hard-working interns away from oth- erwise well-paying jobs that require the wearing of ties and shoes. If you can paddle, spell and want to live in our small paddling town, we’d love to hear from you. We’re particularly interested in candidates from writing and journalism programs, and those with skills in social media and web content manage- ment systems. Send your resumé to kaydi@rapidmedia.com.
