What A Load Of Rubbish

These days, it seems like many every-day, mundane items can be classed as “art” or at least used in a creative way to refl ect the inner meanings of the soul, but one artist clearly took this too far, meaning his work went straight to the bin.

Works of art created from cardboard and newspaper amongst other things, were strewn across the fl oor of an art exhibition in Bari, South Italy, unbeknown to the cleaner, who proceeded to throw out the hard work of Sala Murat.

Security noted that several items from the exhibition were missing on its opening day, before it emerged that the cleaner had believed it to be debris left behind carelessly by setup workers of the Mediating Landscape

exhibition, and proceeded to hand the lot over to the local binmen.

City Marketing Commissioner, Antonio Maria Vasile, commented: “We are obviously very sorry for what happened. It's clear the cleaning person did not realise she had thrown away two works and their value. But this is all about the artists who have been able

to better interpret the meaning of contemporary art, which is to interact with the environment.

Lorenzo Roca, of Italian cleaning fi rm, Chiarissima, said the anonymous cleaner should not be blamed, as she was “just doing her job”, and that the fi rm's insurance would of course cover costs, (estimated to be around 10,000 euros).

will be available free-of-charge on the second day to all visitors registered for INDEX 14. It will provide market and practical research data on one of the most dynamic nonwoven sectors; nonwovens are indeed increasingly being used to protect expensive and vulnerable components as they progress through the supply chain, thanks to their cushioning and their scuff and scratch resistant properties.

Nonwovens Research & Innovation Showcase

at INDEX 14 A Nonwovens Research & Innovation Showcase is scheduled on the fi nal morning, open to research institutes who are either EDANA members and/or exhibitors. Mathieu Mottrie of the innovation specialist company, Creax, will deliver the keynote speech, illustrating how developments in one industry sector can successfully be applied to another for commercial benefi t. The session will showcase the latest innovations in the realm of nonwovens, how nonwovens research establishments approach innovation, as well as covering the topic of cross-fertilisation.
