We’re really excited about going to the Show this year, as its timing coincides with the feedback we’re getting from our customers that a lot of new contracts will be starting in the New Year, which we'll be looking to support with new kit. We’ll be bringing as many of our branch and workshop managers as possible to the exhibition, so that they can discuss all the daily experiences they gather over the course of a year, and gain solutions and answers directly from the manufacturers, which can then be discussed at our monthly operations meetings. Finally, I'll be getting my calculator out to ensure all our capital allowances have been taken for the year: if not, there'll be some lucky exhibitors!

One of the big benefits of going to the Show is that you can see so many suppliers in one go. We also find that the exhibition has an intimate, business- like atmosphere and you can hold a good conversation with people, without any tyre-kickers getting in the way. Before the event, I will sit down with my colleagues and discuss what we might need for the fleet and which we can look at during our visit. One area of interest will be powered access machinery, in which we plan to invest significantly this year.

Steve Hitchen, MD, One Stop Hire The 2014 Executive Hire Show will be very important to One Stop

Hire. Since we started trading in 2009, we have averaged 30% year on year growth, and, with the construction recovery gathering pace, the challenge for this year will be to fund the many opportunities we foresee. The cap-ex requirement to grow has been, and will continue to be, huge, and as we are planning three more depots over the next 18 months, we are

looking at further big orders being placed. We will be talking to suppliers at the Show to partner with us on deals available.

Ben Jones, MD, Plantool

The Executive Hire Show is the only exhibition targeted specifically at our industry in the UK, so it’s really important for hirers to support it. It’s the opportunity to see what’s new and to keep in touch with our suppliers. I enjoy having a good look at all the stands to see new companies and products, and I’ll take as many of our depot managers along with me as possible so that, between us, we won’t miss anything.

” ” 16 I visited the Show for the first time last year and had an absolutely brilliant

time. We had just established a small tools and equipment hire operation as an adjunct to our main construction business, JKM & Sons, to meet a local gap in the market. We had a fantastic day at the exhibition, learning more about the industry and finding new suppliers like Handy Distribution, ATE and GreenTek. We are still a small operation, offering items like breakers, grass trimmers, mixers and compaction plates, but we want to expand. This year we hope to add a mini excavator to the fleet, which will be amongst the equipment we will be keeping an eye out for. We are always looking for new products and opportunities, and I take the view that, if I come back from the Show with, say, just two new supplier contacts, that will be two more than I had before, and could result in some profitable fleet additions.
