Roosevelt National Park off ers a multitude of ways to get back to nature, with hiking, camping and fi shing just a few of the many activities available. Comprised of three distinct sections, or units, the park off ers 110 square miles of breathtaking scenery, as well as insight into the future president’s formative experiences here. Theodore Roosevelt National Park: Learn more about America’s 26th president and the transformative role his experiences in North Dakota had on his life, then go camping, hiking and fi shing amid the park’s 110 square miles of striking scenery. Medora Musical: This annual stage-show extravaganza combines All-American pageantry with professional-quality singing, dancing and music in a beautiful outdoor amphitheatre set against the backdrop of the majestic North Dakota Badlands. United Tribes International Powwow: Marvel at the pageantry of ancient tribal traditions at this authentic Indian powwow held each autumn in the state capital of Bismarck. Norsk Høstfest: Immerse yourself in Scandinavian culture at North America’s largest such festival held each year in Minot. Maah Daah Hey Trail: Hike, bike or horseback ride along this nationally recognized trail. Enjoy scenic views and watch for wildlife along the 97-mile trail that begins at Sully Creek State Park near Medora and travels north along the Little Missouri River to the North Unit of Theodore Roosevelt National Park.

View reconstructed earth lodges to gain insight into the daily lives of the Mantani Indians, who are believed to have occupied the site from the 16th century until the 1780s. To learn more about the state’s history, visit the North Dakota Heritage Center in Bismarck, or tour one of the state’s many preserved historic forts and villages. View Native American artefacts, bison exhibits – including a live bison herd – and the World’s Largest Buff alo Monument at the National Buff alo Museum. Or experience the Scandinavian heritage of many of North Dakota’s early settlers at sites such as the Scandinavian Heritage Park in Minot, which honours the traditions and culture of Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Norway and Sweden.
