Applied Project in Environmental Management


This module is intended to provide an integration of skills and knowledge acquired in other core modules and to introduce a range of skills of analysis and presentation.


Implementing Sustainability


This module addresses issues surrounding the need for sustainable development to ensure the needs of the present are met without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs.


International Wastes Management


You will assess the environmental impact and economics of current waste disposal practices in urban areas, the system deficiencies that exist and the steps that need to be taken to correct solid wastes management practices in both developed and developing countries.


Assessment


The course is assessed purely on the basis of coursework. There are no examinations.


Career Opportunities Our graduates have been able to develop careers in specialist environmental management, conservation project management, pollution control and land and natural resource management or in environmental education, as well as gain managerial posts within government agencies, environmental consultancies and major national and international companies. You will have the opportunity to join associations such as the Institute of Environmental Management and Assessment, or Society for the Environment, and can eventually become a Chartered Environmentalist (CENV).


Duration of Course


The course commences in September of each year and runs for 12 months. It is delivered either via the traditional route of lectures, seminars and activities, or through a fully supported distance learning mode. The course runs throughout two taught semesters followed by a period of supported independent study whilst you complete your dissertation.


Entry Requirements


You will normally hold a First or Second Class Bachelor’s degree in a recognised environmental science discipline such as physical geography, biology, environmental chemistry, geology or a related area. Those with degrees in other subject areas will be considered according to the interests and background of the candidate. Applicants for whom English is not their first language will be required to demonstrate that they meet the minimum English language requirement of IELTS 6.5 (or equivalent).
