The Trust for Public Land opened its first Fitness Zones in 2007. As of this year, we’ve helped create 56 of these free outdoor gyms in 25 cities from Los Angeles to New Orleans, with 17 more currently in the works.

ermont’s Jackson Valley runs along the U.S.- Canadian border, and it’s long been a top priority for conservationists on both sides. Last year, The Trust


for Public Land helped place an easement over nearly a thou- sand acres here, safeguarding both sustainable timber har- vesting and an international habitat corridor for wildlife like bobcat, marten, and moose—none of which have passports. Just the latest effort in our conservation work along the


border, the newly protected land also buffers more than a mile of the Long Trail. This challenging route through the Green Mountains is the oldest long-distance trail in the country and attracts adventurers of all stripes—from day-tripping families to solo backpackers attempting the entire 273-mile span. Time it just right, and a long-haul hiker can use the path to follow autumn’s onset from north to south, enjoying a vibrant show of changing leaves all the way from Canada to Massachusetts.
