PPM Technology, a specialist gas detection and indoor air quality (IAQ) instrumentation manufacturer from Wales, has developed a range of multi-parameter IAQ monitoring equipment.

In order to accurately understand a building’s indoor air quality, it is advised to simultaneously monitor various indoor air quality parameters including gases, temperature and humidity. PPM Technology’s range of IAQ monitoring instruments includes the Wireless IAQ Profile Monitor, which can contain sensors for a maximum of seven specified IAQ parameters. A compact model, the Mini IAQ Profile Monitor, can contain a maximum of five sensors. Customer specified IAQ parameters can include – Carbon Dioxide, Nitrogen Dioxide, Carbon Monoxide, Sulphur Dioxide,

Both instruments send the collected IAQ data wirelessly to the control user in real-time and a large number of units can be networked together to enable accurate monitoring of an entire building. The PPMonitor software enables the user to view data graphically, produce reports and statistical data, run schedules as well as enable alarm functions and notifications for more effective and economical building management.

Functions and applications include; IAQ complaint investigation and analysis, HVAC system performance analysis, health and comfort assessment, ensuring safety of building occupants and to comply with national safety regulations and laws.

NHS Grampian has become the first hospital in Scotland to trial an innovative new hand hygiene product, the Pure Hold Hygiene Handle. Developed in conjunction with NHS Infection Prevention specialists in the UK, it has already been deployed in a number of hospitals across England and Ireland, where it is proving to be a useful tool in the battle to control infections.

The Hygiene Handle is a door handle that dispenses sanitising hand gel directly onto the users hand when they open the door. The system has been designed to significantly improve awareness around hand hygiene and more importantly compliance. By building a dispenser into the door handle, everyone who enters an area (e.g. a hospital ward) uses the gel to clean their hands unless they make a conscious

decision to avoid doing so. Current systems encourage people to “opt in” to hand hygiene controls. The Hygiene Handle approach reverses the decision so that everyone complies unless they have a good reason to “opt out”. In separate independent tests the Hygiene Handle surface was also shown to be 98.5% cleaner than standard hospital door handles. SITA UK OFFERS CONFIDENTIAL CLOSED-LOOP

SITA UK has launched a new offer for customers, giving them the chance to reuse the confidential paper that they throw away by creating tissue products for the workplace.

Developed in partnership with SCA Hygiene Products, who own the Tork brand, this scheme creates a closed loop solution for customers within their own business, giving customers the chance to both recycle then reuse the material that they throw


away. The service was introduced following feedback from customers who said they wanted a practical way to demonstrate environmental improvements that they are making.

Jerome Mingaz, Head of Secure Shredding at SITA UK, said: “Shred to tissue is a great example of the circular economy in action. SITA UK collects and shreds any confidential paper disposed of by customers, in compliance with all current legislation

and standards (EN15713 and BS7858). Once reduced to finely shredded paper, the material is then sent for recycling at SCA’s UK mill, based in Prudhoe, where it is processed to produce tissue. The tissue is then converted into Tork hygiene paper products for use in washrooms, office buildings, food service requirements, industrial facilities and healthcare organisations.
