Metsa Tissue provide paper for a paper based industry…

touching (and sharing) the phones, keyboards, screens, scalpels, markers, papers, boards and plastics constantly throughout the day. And, post Swine flu pandemic, rtfacts, like all UK businesses, knows that washing and drying hands properly, helps to keep staff healthy and plays a major part in avoiding coughs colds, flus and stomach bugs.

In 1993, starting rtfacts design & print seemed like a great idea for Roger Payton and Tony Johnson (the R and T in rtfacts). 18 years on and rtfacts have traded continuously, providing clients from Hemel Hempstead to as far afield as Washington USA, Finland and India, with quality graphic design and print services. A succession of lucky breaks and an appreciation of their quality work, commitment and passion saw the beginning of many long term business relationships, some of which continue to this day.

Tony. “Making sure we’re all fit, healthy and ready for the many challenges that our clients throw at us is key to our success.

“Hygiene may not be at the top of everyone’s shopping list but as a service provider, having staff in the office, fit and well is what keeps us in business”.

“As print is in our blood, our commitment to paper in all forms has always been high - it is mandatory that all our print work uses paper that comes from sustainable and properly managed sources” says Janet Ginger, rtfacts Office Manager. With these goals in mind, Janet was tasked with finding a hygiene solution that fitted rtfacts Corporate Social Responsibility policy.

Janet explains: “When you look into washroom solutions the options are many, but a few key facts pointed us in the direction of paper towels. Linen towels were just not practicable or healthy for our team or the clients that shared them, during the working day. Hygiene statistics pushed us away from hot air dryers and our female staff members disliked the whole concept, fearing that they would simply blow germs around their personal environment anyway.

“Most importantly, rtfacts needed a solution where they could guarantee that hands were ‘really dry’ – because design staff may come straight out of the washroom and touch an important piece of final artwork – damp finger prints are just not acceptable.”

Janet contacted Metsa Tissue after browsing the internet and recognising that many of the environmental logos that Metsa’s Katrin products held were the same as those rtfacts

mandates from its paper suppliers. “We are obviously passionate about our impact on the planet and it was obvious to us that Metsa Tissue and the Katrin brand were as well” Janet said. “I told the account manager what we did and what we thought we needed. He made some further suggestions and provided us with some samples. We liked what we tested and now we have Katrin system dispensers and products in all the key areas around the studio.”

An unexpected bonus for the company was a considerable reduction in spend. “It’s difficult to discuss toilet tissue usage with staff” explains Roger, “particularly with female members – it’s a delicate subject. We were thrilled to discover that the Metsa Tissue System have actually reduced our toilet roll spend by 10% - because the systems don’t run free, and each roll is used right to the end.”

So the whole process has been a win/win for the company. Roger concludes by saying “not only have we saved money on a product entirely compatible with our ethos – but the soaps are lovely quality and the matching bins look great too, which actually is really important in a design environment. Our customers come into our premises regularly and need to see that we live and breathe quality and design excellence. Most importantly, one ‘rt fact’ we are pleased to quote is that, so far this year, no colleague days have been lost to sickness.”
