Case Study: Mappleswells Primary School The SmartOne®

With the health and safety of children to consider, it is all the more important that school washrooms are using the industry’s most superior products, ensuring ultimate hygiene and cleanliness, to prevent the spread of infection. Ricky Thacker, Premises Manager at Mappleswells Primary in Nottingham explains how the SmartOne® mini double toilet tissue dispenser from the Lotus Professional range®

mini double toilet tissue dispenser at school.

has helped the school

achieve top marks for cleanliness and efficiency in the school’s washrooms.

“It is of utmost importance to us at Mappleswells Primary that we keep the washrooms as clean as possible, so that the children – all aged between 7 and 11 – are in a safe, hygienic environment. We seek the best products on the market that will help us maintain clean and tidy washrooms that run effectively.

“The most important factor for the school is infection prevention and ensuring the children are not at risk of cross-contamination, so we look for systems that can help us maintain efficient facilities, whilst also meeting the sanitation demands of a high-traffic school washroom. With near-on 270 children using the washrooms frequently, in break times and at lunch, it is crucial the facilities remain up to standard all day.

“Before switching to the Lotus Professional® SmartOne®

mini double system, the school

used Z-fold square tissues, which were often littered on the floor, as surplus paper fell out of the dispenser and was ultimately wasted. I often had to pick the tissues up off the floor and clean the washrooms more frequently than I do now.

“We wanted to try something new as the amount of waste tissue going through the washrooms each day seemed excessive. Neil Turner, our Georgia-Pacific National Account Manager recommended we trial the SmartOne®

mini double dispenser, as the

fully enclosed unit offers advanced hygiene and the limited dispense function means only 1 sheet is dispensed at a time, the remaining roll stays enclosed in the dispense unit, so no surplus paper ends up on the floor.

“After a successful trial we installed the product across all student washrooms. As a

result there has been far less mess on the floor, as well as less frequent need for replenishment and restock. We have saved on costs, as the reduced toilet paper consumption means we are no longer wasting money restocking. The compact design of the system also meant it was easy to install in the toilet cubicles, as it does not take up too much space whilst still maintaining a sleek design in the facilities.

“As well as saving on labour time and costs, the SmartOne®

mini double dispenser has

proven practical – the children find it easy to use, as the paper doesn’t get wedged inside the dispenser, and the duality of the dispenser means there is always paper in reserve so the children don’t go short. The SmartOne®

mini double has provided

an effective solution to the waste issues the school had previously experienced, whilst also offering ultimate hygiene and cost efficiency.”
