AT THE RACES
VANLANDINGHAM WINS XTERRA WORLDS
Conrad Stoltz of South Africa made history and Shonny Vanlandingham of Colorado started history at the 15th Annual XTERRA World Championship off-road triathlon Oct. 25 in Maui, Hawaii. Additionally, 13 Americans were victorious in their age groups.

After five consecutive years of top 10 finishes without an XTERRA world title, Vanlandingham broke through this time, topping the women’s field for her first XTERRA World Championship.

“This is my third year on the XTERRA circuit, and I made it my goal, although it was a lofty goal, to win the championship in my third year at the age of 41,” Vanlandingham said. “I knew it had to come together today to be a special day.”

Stoltz made history by winning XTERRA Worlds for the fourth time. Stoltz is the first pro to win four XTERRA world titles.

AGE GROUP ACTION
Thirteen Americans captured world titles: Hannah Rae Finchamp (F15-19, Altadena, Calif.), Luisa Bryce (F25-29, Denver, Colo.), Amber Monforte (F30-34, Reno, Nev.), Kathleen Coutinho (F40-44, Fairfax Station, Va.), Carolina Colonna (F45-49, Taos, N.M.), Beverly Enslow (F50-54, Metamora, Ill.), Libby Harrow (F60+, Vero Beach, Fla.), Mark Geoghegan (M45-49, Honolulu, Hawaii), Tom Monica (M50-54, Thousand Oaks, Calif.), David Rakita (M60-64, Durango, Colo.), Peter Wood (M65-69, La Jolla, Calif.), Ron Hill (M70+, Hayden, Idaho), Fouad Fattoumy (PC, Honolulu, Hawaii).

XTERRA USA
Stoltz and Melanie McQuaid won the grueling XTERRA USA Championship off-road triathlon at Snowbasin Resort on Sept. 25 in Ogden, Utah. Josiah Middaugh and Vanlandingham, who finished third in the men’s and women’s races, respectively, were the top American finishers.

More than 300 qualified athletes representing 40 states were in Ogden for their shot at the national championship of off-road triathlon. Jason Michalak defended his title, while Jessica Noyola won the women’s crown.
