Griyo Ltd – Transtango

Transtango is a unique music, film and dance performance inspired by Urban Encounters, an enticing hybrid that crosses cultures, musical genres and different art forms. Transtango blends contemporary tango by Argentinian com- posers (Michael Zisman, Carlos Morera) and jazz by British composer Tim Garland. Sola Akingbo- la, Jamiroquai's percussionist, reconnects tango with its deep African roots.

forms solo, fusing his UK upbringing with his folklore music around the globe. Performances and supports with Angelique Kidjo, Seun Kuti and Muntu Valdo have influenced his passionate live shows, comprising of interactive Griot story- telling, live vocal loops and haunting African melodies created on the spot.

Perunika Trio

London-based Perunika Trio specialise in tradi- tional Bulgarian song, and incorporate Macedo- nian and Russian traditional music and Orthodox chants into a broader Slavic repertoire. Collabo- rations include work with Max Pashm Band (Never Mind The Balkans) and Transglobal Underground (UNITE > Gathering Of Strangers), with whom they toured the UK in June 2010.

Alan James was recently a juror for the Welsh Music at Womex showcase and is mapping world music for West Midlands World Music Consortium. In 2010, with Pete Lawrence, he programmed the Haselstock Festival.
