deaths of Irwin Silber, co- founder of Sing Out! magazine, Oak Publications and Paredon Records, on 8th September, aged 84; of Montserrat-born soca/ calypso singer Arrow, hitmaker of Hot Hot Hot, on 15th September aged 60; of ‘king of the buskers’ and Rosie hitmaker Don Partridge on 21st September aged 68; of Bulgarian gadulka master Atanas Vulchev on 14th September aged 73; of prolific Indonesian tembang, sunda and degung composer Nano S on 29th September aged 66; and of Raosolosolofo Razafindranoa of the Malagasy group Mahaleo, on 3rd September aged 59.


Royal Family news! In


November, the Rottingdean Preservation Society are to put up a plaque at the cottage where ‘Brasser’ Copper of the Copper Family first lived, and the local museum will mount a display of Copperiana. There’s already a plaque to Bob Copper at the Central Club, Peacehaven and a Brighton bus named after him.

recent spate of incidents involving airlines using inconsistent hand luggage policies to target musicians. The online petition calls for the Department for Transport and airlines to implement a standard agreement for carrying musical instruments on planes. The petition aims to get thousands of signatures and will also give people the opportunity to cite any experiences of unfair and inconsistent treatment by airlines.
