SALTEX REVIEW

Seen at Saltex

With its appeal to diverse markets, last month’s IOG Saltex in Windsor displayed many new products relevant to hirers serving grounds care, landscaping, construction and plant professionals.

Big, but compact, JCB line-up

JCB’s display represented machines offered under its JCB Utility brand, including the manufacturer’s latest diesel 4x4 Groundhog utility vehicles, which are powered by a 26hp engine giving a

top speed of 31mph. CVT transmission with high/low gear ranges is incorporated. All-wheel hydraulic disc brakes with a split circuit and a twin calliper parking brake are fitted, and road legal kits can be specified.

The 4x4 machine has fully independent suspension at each wheel, with high

ground clearance and progressive rate springs at the rear, for good road holding and a smooth ride over rough terrain, whether laden or unladen. Also included in the Saltex line-up was the 515-40 Loadall compact telehandler, which is only 1.8m high, 2.7m long and weighs less than 3.5 tonnes, along with the Dumpster tracked dumper, the Teletruk materials handler, the 403 compact articulated loader, the 1CX mini backhoe and rough terrain forklifts.

Armorgard offers an extensive range of secure storage products for use by grounds care and construction professionals. The BarroBox is a mobile unit whose wheels can be retracted once it is in the required location, so that it cannot easily be moved or stolen. The product is small enough to fit through a standard doorway. Armogard’s Terry Mitchell told EHN that another item in demand from

hirers is the TuffCage, a collapsible galvanised steel storage unit that can store up to ten 47kg gas bottles. “Hirers like them because they require no assembly and have no detachable parts to lose, so they can be supplied to customers very quickly. The TuffCage is only 180mm high when folded and is fully stackable.”

Briggs & Stratton’s warranty benefits

Prominent among Briggs & Stratton’s Saltex display were engines from the Vanguard range of air-cooled petrol engines, which now benefit from a three-year limited consumer and commercial warranty that applies to all market categories, including the hire industry. The manufacturer also announced the appointment of Ian Small as Sales Manager for Briggs & Stratton Commercial Power in the UK and Eire. He replaces Barry Goodchild, who becomes Technical Service Manager for Europe, based in Germany.

Get attached with Kanga

New from Kanga UK are two additional attachments for the versatile Kanga Kid compact skid steer loader, namely a turf aerator and a powerful hydraulic log splitter, being manufactured by the company in the UK. National Sales Manager, Stuart Coar, says that the latter implement has already been bought by Dorking Tool Hire. It can also be supplied in a version that can be mounted on the three-point linkage of a compact tractor.
