V ELECTRALITE SUPPLEMENT TO OKLAHOMA LIVING

Co-op Taxes Support Area Schools

Although co-ops don’t pay income tax, we do pay a 2-percent gross re- ceipts tax. It is in lieu of ad-valorem, sales, and other excise taxes. The gross receipt tax is then distributed by the Oklahoma Tax Commission to area school districts based on the miles of co-op power lines within the district. In 2015 CVEC paid $1,129,983.03 in gross receipt taxes. That amount, coupled with the $586,351.25 paid by WFEC, totaled over $1,716,334.28 paid to area schools.

The accompanying chart details the taxes paid to each school district in CVEC’s service territory.

ing, positions that lead to better service to all our members and assist us in meeting state and federal requirements. In addi- tion, we have investigated several of our contracts and methods for purchasing ma- terials and services, resulting in a change in the way we purchase our fuel and other materials for a savings to Canadian Val- ley members. We have moved forward with repairs to our building, and in the near future, will again be able to utilize our entire building for our employees, being able to move some employees out of the base- ment to a better work environment. With that being done, there still may be a need to obtain some temporary housing for part of our team and we are looking at the most economical way to do that. There is no lack of commitment here at Canadian Valley by the employees and the board to do what is the very best for our members. I am proud to have the opportunity to lead this cooperative for the next sev- eral months as we strive to be the best provider of safe, reliable electric service that we can be for you our members. Hope that all had a safe and meaningful Easter season and are making plans for an enjoyable spring as hopefully winter is over and what a great winter it has been. Good day to all.
