Kiamichi Electric Cooperative (KEC) is committed to providing reliable and affordable electric service to members in Latimer, LeFlore, Pittsburg, Pushmataha and Atoka counties.

The people and businesses that purchase electricity from Kiamichi Electric are considered member-owners of the co-op. Each member—regardless of how much electricity they purchase – has an equal say in how the cooperative is operated.

To exercise their right, Kiamichi Electric members are encouraged to attend co-op meetings and vote in co-op elections.

Kiamichi Electric service territory is divided into seven districts. Members within each district meet every two years to choose a fellow member to represent their interests on the Kiamichi Electric board of trustees. KEC board members set policy and oversee cooperative business.

Through local leadership and control, Kiamichi Electric Cooperative members can rest assured their electric co-op remains focused on the needs of its members and its rural communities.

Electric, we work hard to ensure you have electricity every hour of every day. It’s what we do, and we are concerned about the quality of service we provide.

As we upgrade our distribution system to improve reliability, we face continual challenges. Maybe a tornado hits our area, or an ice storm. Maybe someone slides off the road and hits a utility pole, or copper thieves tear down our equipment.

We experience a lot together, yet all the while, we must prepare for what may come tomorrow. It’s a tall order. With 4,116 miles of electric distribution line, we have a lot of ground to cover. And when the lights go out, our priority is to restore it as quickly as possible.

It used to be our only option was to send linemen out to drive the line to investigate a problem. Thanks to recent investments in smart technologies, we will soon be able to monitor our system remotely and pinpoint problems more quickly and accurately as they occur. You can read more about this new technology on page 3 of this issue. These are advances that help us keep your lights glowing and your heat blowing.

At Kiamichi Electric, we are blessed with a great field operations team who possess tremendous expertise in maintaining and repairing our infrastructure. They evaluate and deploy cost-effective system upgrades and preventive maintenance strategies

across five counties. They work hard all year to keep trees away from power lines to prevent outages and keep our members safe.

Right of way maintenance is a tough job in our climate, but we are making progress. On average, our members experienced 247 minutes without power in 2014. For our rugged terrain, that's not too bad but we will continue to improve on this figure with each full cycle of our maintenance plan. We are determined to meet these challenges and, hopefully, exceed your expectations.
