A testing time

testing and test houses in particular? Admiral Sir Trevor Soar is a former Commander-in-Chief Fleet of

T

the Royal Navy. He summed up the approach needed by industry in the face of an uncertain future when he said, “When a major decision outside your remit is made resulting in confusion and doubt, the result can often be a paralysis of inaction. This is the time to step to the fore, provide leadership in the vacuum that exists and drive your programme forward.” It is quite clear that high-tech businesses need to demonstrate

the necessary leadership to succeed during the existing period of uncertainty and a future outside of the EU. Standards and skills are key enablers of any industrial revolution. Testing is at the core of product verification and test houses listed in this publication know that any expectations of a relaxation in standards or the requirement for conformance are without foundation, since export markets will continue to demand the same accreditation. So existing standards certification bodies will continue to offer the same services and will continue to be accredited to certify against the same standards that they do today. By this time next year, we could be halfway to the conclusion of

the Brexit process. Watch this space for further deliberations on the implications of Brexit on the Test House Community.

his time last year, none of us could have foreseen the momentous upheaval that the country, the economy and industry were going to be embarking upon by now. As it is, we are now heading for some form of Brexit, and a period of uncertainty. What will this mean for product
