I love the Mayans. A chance to introduce children to a civilisation so different to those we know of in the west, but which may contain lessons for us all. The exotic cities with their pyramids rising out of the jungle may suggest a lost world that we don’t fully understand, but with the deciphering of the Mayan script in the 1950s they have become people, not just the ghostly inhabitants of ruins.
