The report said that many manufacturers are developing energy sector-specific machines that are capable of handling heavy lift operations at nuclear and renewable energy sites. Increasing construction spending is also a


major factor impacting growth in the crawler crane market. “The construction application segment in China dominated the industry with a market share of around 40 percent in 2017. Construction applications offer a huge impetus for growth in the market. Global construction spending is anticipated to


reach USD15.9 trillion by 2024,” said GMI. With an increasing demand across a


number of industries and regions, GMI expects shipments of crawler cranes to grow at a compound annual growth rate of over 4 percent. The report added that high maintenance


costs and initial investments are the major factors hindering the development of the crawler crane market, with customers preferring to rent the machines rather than procuring new equipment.


Structural steel sector Another important market for companies that manufacture heavy-duty material handling equipment, according to Ireland-headquartered Combilift, is the structural steel sector, particularly in the USA. Martin McVicar, managing director at


Combilift, said that, overall, there has been increased demand across the company’s product range over the last year, including

Lifting technique “The Combi-SC straddles the load, lifting it within its frame, and its own weight does not therefore need to be increased in proportion to the heavier loads it handles.
