FUCHS offer helping hand to next generation

A leading lubricants manufacturer is educating the next generation of technical experts by hosting a series of specialist seminars around the UK’s colleges and universities.

Representatives of FUCHS Lubricants – which has its UK base in Stoke-on-Trent, UK are hosting the unique programme, on oil and other related topics, to engineering and motorsport engineering students at many educational centres.

The sessions are led by FUCHS’ UK Automotive Technical Manager Andy Brown and are each held in front of groups of up to 50 students.

“The aim is to talk to youngsters who are taking courses in engineering or motorsport engineering,” said Andy.

“While all the courses are extensive in their content, oils and lubricants is sometimes one area which can get overlooked. We try to address that by offering this free educational insight. We outline lubrication systems and lubrication principles and tailor the content to the specific course we are addressing.

“We talk to a number of students taking courses which cover motorsport so the emphasis with them is on how lubricants operate in the extreme conditions they must contend with in that arena.

“Quite a few of the students will run, or be involved in, the running of race teams so we supply products free of charge, encouraging them to do testing and oil analysis and think about what effect different engines have on different oils.”

Amongst the educational centres which have benefitted from the FUCHS sessions have been Brunel University, Oxford Brooks University, University of Wales Trinity St. David, Staffordshire University, University of Derby, RAF Cosford, Myerscough College, Bridgwater College, Wiltshire College of Motorsport and the British Motorcycle Manufacturing Academy.
