Quality performance with

Intertek, a leading total quality assurance provider to industries worldwide, is proud of its award-winning Milton Keynes Transportation Technologies’ engine testing laboratory’s engine and drivelines test cells, which are dedicated to the test and development of all types of fired and non-fired drivelines including specific expertise in the testing of lubricants and fuels.

The engine testing laboratory test cells, which are among the highest specification testing facilities commercially available in Europe, focus on testing lubricants and fuels to ensure these products meet internationally recognised standards for quality, service life and to assist with many other aspects such as system friction reduction and optimising fuel use to reduce harmful gaseous emissions.

The state-of-the-art laboratory in Milton Keynes, which has been operational since the mid-1980s and was originally part of the highly regarded engineering consultancy Tickford, has seen significant expansion and investment in the last few years since its acquisition by Intertek Group. The laboratory runs round the clock, providing a wide breadth of tests from simple base engine durability tests to developing the latest ECM calibrations

for next-generation Diesel and gasoline fired engines – including both hybrid drivelines and more recently e-traction motors.

The laboratory runs a variety of industry standard lubricant and fuels tests to European standards as outlined in the Co-Ordinating European Council (CEC) test procedures. The tests include running PSA engines on the DV6, DW10B & C tests and XUD9 tests as well as M102E and M111 tests on gasoline Mercedes Benz engines. The Milton Keynes laboratory is fully accredited to ISO 9001 as well as the laboratory testing standard ISO 17025 which is a requirement for these highly accurate tests.

Centre of excellence Tony Braddon, Managing Director of Intertek Milton Keynes said: “Intertek Milton Keynes leads the way as a centre of excellence for high end automotive testing and engineering services. We are privileged to work in partnership with the best of Britain’s automotive manufacturing industry to test and develop their vehicles’ powertrains to ensure they are the best they can be. Working together, Intertek has recognised that the future of the automotive industry is changing and moving into a high-tech future where the use of internal combustion engines is being augmented and superseded by hybrid technology, batteries and electric motors.”
