delivered the ‘Industrial Lubricants’ training module forming part of the UKLA ‘Certificate of Lubricant Competence’ course. Congratulations Gautier on a well-deserved award.

The President’s Award was presented to Nigel McDonald of NiMac. Nigel stood down as a Board Director of UKLA at this year’s AGM in September after having served for eight years as Honorary Treasurer and previously Midlands Branch treasurer. Steve Mayo praised Nigel’s commitment and dedication in fulfilling the role which is of paramount importance to the continued success of the Association.

Following the awards, UKLA President Steve Mayo talked about the importance that the lubricants sector plays in the economy and the pivotal role that developing the skills agenda has on the continued success of the industry. This year UKLA had worked with the sector to completely revitalise its Certificate in Lubricant Competence to become an industry-devised, industry-developed and industry-led flagship training course. Working with colleagues in Total, Houghton, Chevron, Infineum and Afton, UKLA had completely revised and updated the course content to make it relevant and fit for purpose in supporting a 21st century industry. Steve is a member of the Northern Powerhouse Partnership which he attended that morning. The aim of the Partnership is to ensure that the economic benefit of major industrial investment is maximised across Manchester, Leeds and other parts of the region for the benefit of all organisations.

After a rousing speech by the President, a live charity auction was held for the benefit of Parkinson’s. Items that were auctioned included a holiday in Bali, a signed Queen album and

an autograph of Winston Churchill. A silent auction was also held of various valuable artefacts that were displayed in the foyer outside the dining room. The auction managed to raise in excess of £3,500 for the charity.

Comedy speaker and legend Barry Cryer took to the stage to finish proceedings. Barry needs no introduction and has worked with some of the all time greats in comedy including Frankie Howard and Morecambe & Wise. At the end of his speech Barry rightly received a standing ovation from the guests.

After formal proceedings ended, guests milled away to the foyer, mingled around tables or congregated at the bar to continue networking. Although the event was planned to finish at 1 am, there were still many guests in the hotel at 2 am which is testament to a good evening.

Finally UKLA must thank the sponsors of the evening without whom it not be possible to host such a prestigious event. Cosan and Comma Oils were the headline sponsor and provided table gifts. The VIP reception Sponsor was Olyslager and the General Reception Sponsor was Oil Recruitment. The After Dinner Speaker was sponsored by MKR and Petronas, The dinner programme by SBZ Corporation. IMCD sponsored the Young Employee of the Year. General Sponsors were BTC, BASF and Multisol. The President’s award was sponsored by Infineum.
