TRANSPORT CLEANING ALL ABOARD THE LPG TRAIN


Cleaning trains can be a thankless task, but Demon International believe they have a solution that can effectively do the job, while continuing to live up to the firm’s green aspirations. Here, they tell us about their new LPG Pressure Washers.


Over the course of their lives on the tracks, trains can collect more than their fair share of dirt and grime, not to mention the odd bit of graffiti, so it’s important for train operating companies (TOCs) to keep them looking clean.


However, Demon International has a solution, thanks to the introduction of an LPG option on their successful range of petrol pressure washers. With current emission laws being tightened and the increasing cost of fuel, the LPG engine offers a credible alternative.


The new Honda GX 200 Gas engine offers the market a green alternative to petrol. Demon International have tested the new engine on two products (Tornado P2 Mini-Bowser and Hurricane P2 Combi), both of which have performed as well as the petrol version.


The machines are reaching a whole spectrum of businesses and industries, from local authorities to management agents and cleaning contractors to transport companies. Businesses currently trialling the machines include one of the rail franchises, plus some graffiti removal teams in central London and a cleaning contractor looking for new and innovative machines.


Utilising its more than 50 years of experience, Demon has looked extensively at the industry for pressure washers and the ever-increasing demands on reduced noise and emissions. Current restrictions within the capital and other cities in the UK will make the use of standard diesel and petrol driven machines harder. However, using LPG meets the needs to reduce noise and emissions to an acceptable level with minimal cost implications.


The benefits that come with switching to an LPG model are numerous, as shown by the table below, which compares Demon’s Honda GX200 LPG to its petrol equivalent:

Demon International has a network of distributors in the UK and worldwide, and those distributors are already seeing the opportunities of this new range. Ross Osborne is Director of The Maintenance Supply Co in Essex, one of the companies with the new range on board. Ross explained the main benefits his customers were seeing from the machines.


“We are seeing an increased demand on machines which require high levels of efficiency and productivity using cleaner fuel sources,” he said. “By using LPG as a fuel source we have a highly productive machine which can be used just about anywhere, at any location, with a fuel that is easily accessible, cheap to purchase and easily transported.


“This new innovation opens a wonderful opportunity for us as distributors and our customers alike to attack new and existing business with a true innovation to the facilities and transport cleaning industries.”


As well as the Mini Bowser and Combi, 2017 will also see the option of a bowser plate with the new Honda GX340 LPG as a conversion for existing bowsers. It will also be available as a complete bowser unit. These will be the road towable version and have the capacity to carry bigger gas cylinders and have longer run times.


The future of engine-powered machines, according to Demon International, will need to see a shift to much more efficient operations, with the emissions reduced drastically. They also believe that fuel costs will rise and restrictions in fuel carrying will be increased. Demon International is again leading from the front in green options for customers offering products designed for now and the future.
