What was your first job? Telesales executive at

Quite by chance. My background is in the pharmaceutical/life science sector, where I had been working for publishing and information companies for over 15 years when the role at Hydro Systems presented itself. I saw the potential to drive marketing efforts forward within the


Which three words describe your personality?


Gregarious, determined and honest


If you could visit one place in the world, where would you


go and why? I have been lucky enough to travel quite extensively in my life but sadly very little in the Far East. After reading James Clavell’s Shogun as a teenager I’ve always wanted to visit Japan. The country and culture have fascinated me ever since.


How would you improve the cleaning industry?


I believe in the improved efficiency, savings and results that equipment such as ours offers. I would love to see a better dialogue between end users and manufacturers to ensure the performance and benefits of our dispensing equipment are truly maximised.

If an intern were to start tomorrow, what’s the one


piece of advice you would give them? Never assume that you know the answer, identify the expert, listen and learn.


What do you do to unwind? I’m a huge movie fan, with


a collection that borders on the ridiculous. I love the escapism and visual entertainment that a film offers.

What, do you think, is the future of the cleaning industry?


I can only speak for the segment of the cleaning industry that Hydro Systems covers, namely the design, development and manufacture of dispensing equipment for cleaning chemicals. In this space, the future is the design of evermore innovative, reliable, precise and cost effective equipment to deliver better and safer cleaning results, whatever the environment, thereby ensuring their more widespread and regular use.

How do you continue to maintain motivation for


your team? For me, communication is the key motivator. In my experience, a team that sees the bigger picture will always be more committed, feel more involved and deliver better results.
