Things got very exciting for us here at TCHQ this month, as I found myself playing the role of mediator in the ongoing battle between paper towels and electric hand dryers.

This follows last year’s study by the European Tissue Symposium, which found that electric hand dryers spread a larger amount of bacteria into the washroom atmosphere than their paper towel counterparts. This obviously angered a fair few in the electric dryer market, none more so than Dyson, creators of the Airblade, who invited me down to their Wiltshire base to chat with one of their chief microbiologists and find out where, in their views, the study got it wrong.

Wanting to keep the peace, I also spoke with Roberto Berardi, Chairman of the ETS, to get their side of the story. You can find out if my peace-keeping mission was a success in a bumper feature on page 50.

Meanwhile, excitement continues to build for the Cleaning Show. Now just a month away, it looks set to be a fantastic event, bringing together some of the biggest names in our industry for a three-day celebration of everything ‘cleaning’. You can see a special sneak peek of what they have planned in our Cleaning Show Preview.

Don’t forget to check out some great features in our Washroom Hygiene and Street Cleaning & Graffiti Removal sections, including an eye-opening opinion piece from James White, Managing Director of Denis Rawlins, on why we need to ‘chop the mop’ (and he’s not talking about the Beatles-inspired haircut).

That’s all from us for now, so until next time, thanks very much and happy reading!

Editor's Voice Welcome to the February issue of Tomorrow's Cleaning
