Women in Property - University of Westminster networking and speed interviewing event

Recently representatives from our Construction, Residential Property and Commercial Property teams have volunteered at speed interviewing events at the University of Westminster to provide students with interview skills and guidance on their CVs. The events were hosted by the Association of Women in Property (WiP).

Did you know that women still

represent only 15% of the property and construction industry workforce? WiP

LSH Ski Challenge

A team from Wedlake Bell enjoyed networking and some surprising sporting success at the Lambert Smith Hampton ski challenge in January. Philip Matthews, David Israel, Grainne McCourt, Richard Belsey, Matt Pexton and Suzanne Gill selflessly travelled to Courmayeur in the Italian Alps to continue our long-standing association with the ski challenge and our sponsorship of the parallel slalom race. The business forum focussed on

property technology with interesting presentations from PavGen and Black Swan Data as well as a traditional property perspective from Helical Bar. In a break with Wedlake Bell tradition, Messrs Matthews, Belsey and Pexton survived the first and even second rounds of the parallel slalom, only to be knocked out in the semi-finals by the eventual winners. This podium place is a first for Wedlake Bell in our six years of sponsoring the race.

k Quiz night

Our new offices were the setting for a closely fought and highly competitive quiz night for clients and contacts in the residential development sector at the start of January. 13 teams including representatives from Almacantar, Savills, BLP Insurance, CALA, City and Country, Strutt and Parker, K2 and others struggled over some eclectic puzzles posed by our quiz-master supreme, Jay Bandhal. After not one but two tie breaking questions, the winners of tickets to the Shard were Richard Potts’ team from Seaward. We’ll spare the blushes of those who left with a wooden spoon by citing Chatham House rules. The runners up have demanded a re-match, which we’re planning to host later in the year – watch this space!

is a great organisation that seeks to redress this balance by working with businesses and other industry organisations in the property and construction sector. Nurturing aspiring talent by volunteering at events such as these is just one of the many ways we can help to make a change.
