Lanzarote

A wonderful climate, with the hot sands cooled by the prevailing winds… An exotic landscape of volcanic peaks and deserts… A Spanish accent and flavour – all backed by high standards of hospitality. No wonder The Canaries are such a popular year-round choice.

“I wouldn’t have done this on my own. It was good to have people to sightsee with, and a good laugh!” Shirley, Suffolk

“Lanzarote Gardens: lovely hotel, good accommodation and

excellent choice of food.” Susan, The Wirral

This is a beautiful island, the most easterly in the Canaries group, with a great choice of beaches of every size and colour, including volcanic sand. It boasts an average all year round temperature of 24°C and 3,000 hours of annual sunshine making it a perfect winter sun destination. Our hotels are in Costa Teguise in the north-east of the island and Playa Blanca in the south.

Away from the beach, Lanzarote’s lunar-like volcanic landscape is weirdly beautiful. A day in Timanfaya National Park is a must- do. The Fire Mountains were formed in the 18th century during a volcanic eruption and there are still ‘hot spots’ where, just a few metres below your feet, temperatures of 400°C can be recorded! Perhaps that’s why most people explore the Park by coach, or on the back of a camel...

Lanzarote also boasts the longest volcanic ‘tunnel’ in the world. It’s well worth visiting, as is the series of collapsed caves now forming a complex of swimming pool, garden and auditorium. This was designed by local artist, sculptor and ecologist, César Manrique, who was responsible for many iconic landmarks in Lanzarote.

Both our Lanzarote hotels accept family bookings, but both have great facilities for children (separate pools, kids clubs, early meals etc) so you should barely notice.

Whether you’re a sun-lover, a sightseer or a culture vulture, Lanzarote has something to interest every visitor, and it’s a firm favourite with Friendship Travel guests.
