“I have been travelling the world since 1999 searching for the best destinations and hotels for single travellers. Here are our personal tips for

this winter.” Colum McLornan

I’ve wanted to go on a CRUISE for such a long time, but you know how it goes, dreams like that somehow get put to the back of the queue. So I was really excited to celebrate a recent birthday on a Mediterranean cruise. And I wasn’t disappointed! On arrival in Venice, just the size of the ship itself took my breath away. Everything was so well organised, from the moment I arrived to the day I disembarked. No long queues, no rushing: just a lot – and I mean a lot – of good food and great experiences. To be able to see several different countries over the course of a week was fantastic to me. It felt like being on a floating town, with shops, entertainment and – most of all – lovely staff who were only too happy to make my holiday absolutely unforgettable. Another cruise? Yes please!

The adults-only H10 Ocean Dreams on FUERTEVENTURA has been really popular since we introduced it in 2016 and now I have spent time there, I can see why! To start with, the resort – Corralejo – has everything you could need and all just a short walk away: there’s a great shopping complex just at the end of the road: very handy!

I thought the atmosphere around the hotel was so relaxing, really laid back. When I’m on holiday I love to just chill by the pool, sip a few cocktails and do absolutely nothing… and the Ocean Dreams is perfect for that. (I did try the poolside Pilates class once, and it was good!) Another thing I really liked was the restaurant, which is à la carte instead of buffet, so you can relax around the table and get to know everyone over dinner, instead of leaping up and down to the buffet.

I’ve enjoyed Hosting in LANZAROTE several times, and I’ve been to the island as a tourist, so it’s got to be one of my favourite winter holiday destinations. Warm sunny days on Lanzarote are almost guaranteed and the H10 Lanzarote Princess has a prime location, just metres from the beach.

The rooms are gorgeous (really stylish), the pools are fantastic and the lobby is a cool place to hang out while you take advantage of the free WiFi to update your Facebook status with pics of your stay! Breakfast at the hotel is amazing: so much choice every morning even for fussy eaters. And a word about the Cocktail Menu in the Piano Bar – it’s heaven and you’re spoilt with lots of tasty tipples to choose from. There’s also a great Coffee & Cake shop within the hotel grounds which serves Irish Coffees… that’s me sorted then!
