FUNCTION’S PHOENIX RISING
◊
22
Following a relatively quiet period in terms of D&B releases,
Function Records boss Digital is preparing to release a brand
new album, ‘Phoenix Rising’.
An early taste of the forthcoming album comes in the shape of a
12” LP sampler in late June, featuring a new remix of the classic
Function release ‘Phantom Force’, which Digital co-produced with
Spirit back in 1999. The original was a massive hit worldwide,
and receives an awesome new makeover from T-Power &
Codeine for 2007. Over on the flipside, Digital returns with his
signature radicalized dubbed-out sound on ‘Dennis Da Menace’.
Having spent the past two years working on non-D&B projects;
Digital has been co-producing his best friend, UK reggae artist
YT’s LP ‘Straight Outta Britain’ (which was released in April 06
through Sativa/Hip Tones), and has also been assisting with the
development of the Sativa Record label. He now returns in fine
form to bring back his signature sound to the D&B market.
For the ‘Phoenix Rising’ project, Digital has teamed up with a new
production partner, French DJ and Producer Le Lutin. Having signed
a tracked from Le Lutin (Audio unit/FR) for his Timeless imprint, it
wasn’t long before they decided to team-up together as a produc-
tion duo, and French/British relations have never been better!
In total, 12 cuts are featured on the ‘Phoenix Rising’ LP; eight
new cuts from Digital, which are currently doing the rounds on
dubplate/CDR; including ‘Africa’, ‘Cool & Deadly’, ‘Gold Amen’ and
more. Also featured are four classic remixes; Goldie re-works
Digital’s legendary ‘Spacefunk’, long-time friend Simon Bassline
Smith & Drumsound remix ‘Deadline’, old Ipswich cohort Klute
re-works Digital & Spirit’s ‘Remote Control’, plus T-Power &
Codeine’s aforementioned ‘Phantom Force’ remix.
Released over two EPs, the album will be dropping around mid
September/early October on Function, and will be distributed via Load
Media. The 12” sampler for ‘Phoenix Rising’ is out now on promo.

ROGUE ELEMENT REMIX COMPETITION
In celebration of the forthcoming ‘Special De-
livery’ release of The Rogue Element’s album
‘Rogue Rock’, Exceptional Records are giving
budding producers the opportunity to remix
The Rogue’s track ‘Dead Drummers’ into
whatever shape of form they fancy. The finest
display of craftmanship shall be immortalised
on a forthcoming Rogue Element release.
It’s no easy task as there’s only been two
remixes for Rogue Element tracks commis-
sioned so far simply because no-one could
match the quality of the originals. On the
other hand Rogue’s remix skills have been
constantly in demand and always living up
to expectation - proof are the two gongs he
received at the latest Breakspoll Awards for
‘Best Producer’ and ‘Best Remix’
How do you get involved? Log on to www.
exceptionalrecords.co.uk and just follow the
instructions in order to obtain the remix parts
and submit your work. The closing date for
entries is September 1st and all entrants
will be judged by The Rogue Element himself
and the A&R team at Exceptional.
‘Rogue Rock’ (Special Delivery) is
released in July
