famed photographer Stephen Paley. I origi- nally put that out several years ago. Contrary to popular belief, there were only seven songs recorded in that session with Paul Hornsby down at Capricorn. I’ve heard stories that there were 15-20 songs, but there were only seven and they are all on that CD. What it is is our first demos we recorded for Capricorn, done before we began recording Drinking Man’s Friend.

I am a proud owner of a DOD Slider. Please tell our readers about these fine instruments and how you decided to begin making them. Like I said, the idea came after I had the heart attack. Complications from the heart attack caused other problems and I almost died dur- ing surgery. A couple of years went by and I decided I needed to do something, and I re- ally don’t know much except guitars. So I de- cided to build one. Actually, I used to build them back in high school. I made my first one with household tools that you fix a drain with and stuff like that. A friend of mine, Robert, came over and said “Wow! I want four of them. I want the first four you make.” I said “Really? Why four?” He said, “Well, after you die I’m gonna sell them for a thousand bucks each!” With the money he spent I was able to buy power tools and stuff. And I converted the laundry room into a shop. Your thoughts on the 50th anniversary of EQT? It’s the 50th anniversary of everybody! ZZ Top! All these kids got together in 1969 and smoked a joint and said “Hey, let’s start a band!” To me, our generation, the baby boomers, has lasted longer than any other generation. We have held onto the music for fifty years. I mean, the Beatles are still num- ber one! That’s crazy to me! I am just happy to have been a part of it all, thanks to Eric Quincy Tate! •
