CYS is working closely with The City Of Cambridge to provide marked areas close to halfway line that would be called a “Technical Area”.

CYS hopes to have this done to all SSG and House League Fields before the season starts

• A typical technical area extends 1 -2 m (1 -2 yd.) on either side of the designated seated area and extends forward up to a distance of 2 -3 m (2 - 3yd) from the touch line should space allow.

• The coach and assistant coach(s) must remain within the confines of the technical area except in special circumstances, for example if they need to enter the field of play, with the referee’s permission, to assess an injured player.

• The coach and other occupants of the technical area must behave in a responsible manner.

• A Technical area prevents Coaches from going behind the goal or “patrolling up and down the length of the sideline.

It also allows the referee the best opportunity to observe the substitutions of players.

4. Referees

4a) The Club shall assign referees for Small Sided Soccer U8 - U10 Soccer games. In the event that a Referee is not available, or has not been assigned, then Rule # 4b is in effect.

4b) In the event of a referee ‘no-show’, the “Away Team” coach shall referee the first (1st) half of the game and the “Home Team” coach shall referee the second (2nd) half. If both coaches are in agreement, a ‘third party’ (such as, but not limited to, a parent or a coach) may referee the entire game.

4c) Referees shall explain infractions to the offending players. This is encouraged by CYS technical staff, to help both young officials and young players better learn the game.

4d) U7 Game Leaders will be permitted on the field (1 per team) to support the players and help with the flow of the game. Game Leaders are only permitted to stay in their half of the field. Game Leaders are there to encourage the players and not to “coach” the game.

5. Duration of the Game & Playing Time

5a) ) The Small-Sided U7-U10 soccer games shall be played with 2- 25 minute halves. 5b) All games will have a Half Time break of 5 minutes. 5c) Each player must receive equal playing time.

5d) No player(s) shall be left on for the entire game (except when a team has no substitutes).
