The WOW Factor
Author: Barney Adams, 254 Pages, $29.95
I get a pile of books across my desk each month and sometimes it
can be a real effort to decide which ones to investigate further.
Having met the affable Barney Adams years ago it didn’t take much
convincing for me to check out his new book in a hurry. I was richly
rewarded. Without exaggeration, this was the most enjoyable one I
have read in some time, years in fact. Adams tells the story of his
success and past failures like only he can, with sincerity, humility,
and a whole lot of humour. The result is a work where he does not
put himself on a pedestal but effectively conveys his true feelings
and emotions as he climbed to “overnight” success. A must addition
to every golf library and one of the most honest looks at life in the golf
industry that you will ever find. www.skyhorsepublishing.com
Nike Victory Red Forged Split Cavity
A fine compromise between the workability of a blade and the forgiveness
of a full cavity back, the new Victory Red Forged Split Cavity irons
should hit a sweet-spot in the marketplace. Sporting a very traditional
look, the irons feature a split back design that puts the centre of gravity
directly behind the ideal hitting area. Forged from 1025 forged carbon
steel, the feel is both solid and soft at the same time. The faces are CNC
milled for consistency from club to club. “The first time I hit the VR Forged
Split Cavity irons, I immediately noticed what a great feel they have as
the head penetrates through the ground,” said Nike Golf athlete, Lucas
Glover. “I really like the shape of these new irons. The look and feel is
terrific.” www.nikegolf.com
birTee
There are plenty of golf tees on the market today, but the new
birTee™ stands out for several reasons. First off is that Perth
resident Mario Caya was responsible for its creation. More
importantly the set of eight tees not only performs, it is made
entirely from recyclable plastic materials. The multiple height
options may seem confusing at first but it provides the ultimate in
customization according to Caya. “Golfers can find the tee
height that suits how they play and that they are comfortable
with. That makes them more confident every time they tee off,”
he told us at a golf tournament appearance where he was
promoting his new product. The highly durable tees come in a
convenient package that includes all eight tees and a golf ball. It
is manufactured in Canada. www.4rgolftee.com
