A Tournament with a Difference
It’s normally pretty easy to find happy golfers at a golf tournament, especially
one that benefits charity and is far from competitive. But even so, those smiles
are normally enhanced by the giving and receiving of prizes based on the day’s
th
performance. Not so on September 10 at the Nottawasaga Resort in Alliston,
Ontario where the golfers were still smiling but quite honestly the prize table
was, well, barren. Instead of prizes, more money was given to charity.
The enthusiastic response for the situation is not really that unusual when you
begin to understand a little more about the event. The tournament was the
President’s Cup, a new province-wide golf event being held to support the
Realtors Care Foundation. The foundation, which has roots dated back to 1967,
is a provincial association encompassing 43 real estate boards from across
Ontario. In their history they have given over $2 million dollars to various
charitable organizations. In 1999 the group decided to fund primarily shelter
