Bonin Breaks Through at Upper Canada
It has been quite a year for Sebastien Bonin on the Canadian Junior Golf
Association(CJGA) Tour. Until the conclusion of the CJGA Ottawa PGA
Championship on September 7, the Deux-Montagnes, Quebec golfer had
finished in the top five three times. The Upper Canada Golf Course finally
proved to be the setting for his breakthrough performance as he posted two
rounds of 70 (-4) to fashion a nine stroke win over Maxime Marengere of
Chelsea, Quebec. It was the final event of the season for the CJGA in the
Ottawa/Quebec Region.
In the final round Bonin highlighted the day with three birdies and an
eagle. “I played well,” admitted Bonin. “I hit lots of greens and fairways
and putted well. The greens were slow but I liked them.” Greg Holmes of
Ottawa finished in third spot in the Boys 14-16 Division at 154 (+10).
In other divisional races, Luke Helmkay of Ingleside made up a five
stroke first round deficit on the final day in posting a two round total of 161
(+17) to earn the Boys 17-19 Division while Michael Reaume of Ottawa
collected his first division title competing in the Boys 13 & Under Division.
Katherine Gravel-Coursol also became a first time winner in 2008 in her
fourth start of the year. The Mirabel, Quebec resident posted consecutive
rounds of 81.
