The Saddleworth W.I. NEW YEAR REPORT

At the first meeting of the year for the Saddleworth W.I on the 4th January, which took place at the Saddleworth Hotel, they presented a cheque of £3000 to their outgoing charity, Transport for Sick Children which was a fantastic achievement.

They also welcomed their new charity, Saddleworth Sports Youth and Community Association, which is based at the Satellite Centre, Greenfield. This was followed by the battle of the brains in their popular January quiz with quizmaster Paul Norfolk. As always this was a great way to start the year, meet new and existing members and see what the W.I. is all about.

At the 1st February meeting, Kerry Newton, independent consultant with the health, wellness, skincare and beauty company Arbonne, will give the ladies a brief insight into the company sharing with them their luxurious products which are purely botanically based and free of animal testing. There will be plenty of time after the talk to sample all the ranges.

On Wednesday, 1st March, Fran Pridham will talk to the ladies about the beauty and culture of Madagascar plus her experiences working with local inhabitants helping to build better irrigation systems and clean water wells. There will be an opportunity at the meeting to donate towards this very worthy cause.

Further information on the remainder of the programme of monthly speakers, all forthcoming events, activities and subgroups can be found by visiting the website www.saddleworthwi.com or

their Facebook page. In the event of snow, it is important to check the website for updates before attending the meeting.

The W.I popular sub-groups meet on a monthly basis and are a great way to make new friends of all ages. Once again please visit their website and Facebook page for further information on planned outings for 2017 with the food and drink group starting with their popular annual fish, chip and quiz night in January; theatre trips; the book club; the singing group; planned walks and the very popular craft and cake group. Here you will also find information on day trips for 2017.

The ladies meet on the first Wednesday of each month at 8pm at the Saddleworth Hotel. Doors open at 7.15 pm. New members and guests are always welcome at the meetings. Guests can attend one ‘taster’ meeting before joining the W.I. They require a slightly increased donation of £1.00 per member and £3.00 for non- members per meeting towards running costs and refreshments.

Finally, the ladies would like to thank everyone for their continued support of the W.I. and wish you all the best for 2017.
